Islas Secas

One of Panama’s most remote locations is the archipelago of Islas Secas in the Gulf of Chiriquí. Islas Secas is comprised of an 16 volcanic islands, covering over 1,000 hectares in the Pacific Ocean. It’s remote location is one of the reasons why the islands are still largely unexplored and intact.

Selva Terra is located within 15 nautical miles of the Islas Secas Archipielago, approximately a 45 minute journey aboard our vessels. We visit the area regularly for island hopping, snorkeling, scuba diving and sportfishing tours.

Diving and Snorkeling

Diving in Islas Secas is superb. This is one of our favorite dive sites in the Gulf of Chiriquí Marine Park. Selva Terra Island Resort has an NAUI dive center equipped with boats and diving gear. Our instructors know several spots to take you diving depending on the current, experience, and visibility. Some of the dives are drift spots, while others are suitable for beginners. If you don’t know how to dive, you can become certified or go snorkeling. Regardless, you will see plenty of fish in the protected reefs.

Fishing

In Islas Secas you can find massive schools of baitfish used to catch game fish. The waters around the Secas are exceptional inshore fishing grounds with an abundance roosterfish, amberjacks, wahoo, barracudas and cubera snapper.

Birdwatching and Island Hopping

For many, it is simply enjoyable to be out in the ocean whil island hopping in Panama. This region’s climate is pleasant year-round, and the ocean breeze keeps the temperature cool even when the sun is shining. Isla Cocos is a good place to stop if you want to do some birdwatching in Panama. This island in Islas Secas is home to one of the largest colonies of frigate birds in Central America. If you are lucky, you can spot a male with its bright red pouch.
